Pentax PF II Spotting Scopes

Marketed in angled and straight versions, the Pentax-65 ED II scopes have been introduced by Pentax not long ago. Having more developed glass and coatings, this model is an improved version of their old line.

The compact quality of the Pentax PF-65 is its identifying feature. Measuring a mere 12 inches in length, the angled version of the Pentax PF-65 ED II also weighs just around 45 ounces and that’s including the eyepiece. With this size, even a light tripod can make it sufficiently steady. By pairing the scope with an equally lightweight tripod, the whole unit’s weight can be kept at a minimum. It can be conveniently handled, carried and placed in a backpack for an easy travel.

Superb brightness is provided by these Pentax scopes. The focus mechanism is pleasantly stiff and impressively accurate. The stiff quality of the mechanism is a great advantage because with this, accidental deviations from focus will be prevented. Astonishingly impressive is our general reaction to this particular mode, out of all the cheap Pentax scopes we've seen. The convenience it provides the users makes it even more captivating.

Regarding compatibility to digital cameras, Pentax did not have much in store when it comes to digiscoping adapters. Most manufacturers follow pretty much the same route, especially for cameras other than theirs.

But now, a Universal Camera Adapter has been launched by Pentax. This is ideal for point-and-shoot cameras that are not capable of accepting filters or any other accessory. This adapter uses a tripod mount screw to attach to the camera and it utilizes a clamp that binds around the eyepiece mount to affix itself to the scope. When you want to view exclusively through the scope, the camera can be moved away because of the platform. And when you want to take the photo, the same platform also lets the camera back in.

Having a cool design, the objective lens cap cannot be easily knocked loose because it has an adequate fit. Made of a hard rubber cap, the eyepiece lens cap does not dislodge easily as well because it also has a comfortable fit on the rubber part of the eyepiece. It also notably works well. Although the case provides not much padding, it provides optimal protection and also fits comfortably over the scope.

Overall, we hardly saw any flaw on the Pentax PF II spotting scopes. The quality of the image is astounding for starters. It’s very portable because of its compact design. Although this is a topnotch scope, its design is not that complicated that’s why it’s easy to use. Its price is the most surprising feature. Despite all the excellent features, it’s astoundingly affordable.
